Color-Reduction Woodcut
A relief image is carved out of a woodblock. Ink is applied to the raised areas of the carving and hand-pressed onto a piece of paper. Areas of the image to remain that ink color are carved away from the block. A new color is applied and printed over the first. This process is repeated until the desired effect is reached.
Collagraph
An image is created with various textured substances such as sand, gesso, paper, etc. on a substrate which can be run through a press. Ink is then rubbed into and out of the textured areas to create the desired saturation of color. The inked surface is run through a press under dampened cotton paper which transfers the inked image as well as the texture to the paper.
