On a frigid midnight walk early last November, I watched a strong wind disturb a skim of newly formed ice. In defense of its lost tranquility, the lake blanketed itself in a thick fog. Tendrils reaching upward, the mist embraced the yellow moon as if to pull it from the sky. Humbled by the dramatic battle between autumn and winter that played out before me, I returned to the cabin inspired.
